Welcome to OUR House
During one of the Enthronement Weekends the Pastor shared the following story with Chris.
The Pastor (who was in his 50’s or early 60’s at the time of the Enthronement Weekend) said that after his ordination to the priesthood his first assignment was in a parish in a tough part of the city. There was a lot of crime and drugs were prevalent in the neighborhood. One day as he was making a house call he found himself looking at the front door of what could be best be described as a run down shack. His leery knock on the door was answered by someone yelling, “Come In”. As he opened the door and walked into the shack, there was a man sitting bent over on the couch with his head down. The young Father found himself thinking, “Oh boy, what did I get myself into? I wonder if he is on drugs?” As he walked further into the house, the man looked up and pointed to a picture of the Sacred Heart of Jesus hanging on the wall and said, “Welcome to Our House!”
Father said that he was ashamed of what his thoughts had been and he learned to not make assumptions regarding a situation. He said that it was a lesson that would stay with him all his priestly life.
